WE Belong to Jesus

My iPhone 6s is three years old. That is like 50 years in technological time. And it is acting like an old man. It has been draining charge in a day. It cuts off when I answer calls. My GPS just stops working. It tells me the next turn is 0.8 of a mile and five minutes later it’s still 0.8 of mile to go. By that time, I’m as lost as a duck in the desert.

I went by the iPhone store, and they told me it was the battery. Seems that the batteries for the six series were not up to par. To make up for it, Apple is giving a special price for new batteries to iPhone six owners. I had to go to a repair store get them replaced. Fortunately, they were not busy and could replace the batteries in half an hour.

I decided to scope out the strip mall and get a little exercise to boot. I came to a place where the curb was a little too high. That’s a nice way of saying why I stubbed my toe and went down like a sack of potatoes. I was just walking along enjoying the day, and then I was flat on my face. My glasses lay in front of me, and I lay there looking at them for what seemed like a long time. While lying there, I assessed my condition. My knees took the brunt of the fall before my hands could catch me. Both knees and palms were smarting but not nearly as much as my pride.

Thirty years ago, I would have caught myself, cut a flip, and kept walking as if nothing happened. My mind, which still thinks like I’m thirty, tried to tell my body to respond athletically as it had for so many years. My body, unfortunately, failed to respond appropriately.

I got up and looked around to see how many people I had blessed with a good laugh, but no one was around. Too bad for them. I’m sure it was hilarious. I examined my knees and amazingly both were unscathed. The Lord immediately reminded me of how fearfully and wonderfully made I am.

Think about this. Our skin is an astounding organ. It protects our tissues and muscles. It is tough as nails, able to survive a direct hit from a rough concrete sidewalk with nary a scratch. And yet it is so sensitive, it can detect to mosquito landing on the hairs of our arm. Wow!  It sweats so that evaporation will keep us cool when it’s hot. And it shivers with goose bumps to generate heat when we are cold.

The Lord put a lot of thought into this magnificent body He created. And it is His body, you know.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT— Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, WHO LIVES IN YOU and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

Jesus gave us this body. It is His home, His temple. He lives IN us, FOR us, THROUGH us, and AS us. Our body is not ours. It belongs to Him who paid a very high price for us. Since He lives in our body, whatever affects us also affects Him. We are literally ONE with Jesus. It’s not just ME. It’s WE. ME and Jesus, together. Inseparable. Indivisible.

Can’t wrap your head around that awesome truth? Then, take a look at this:

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 NLT— Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never! And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes ONE BODY WITH HER? For the Scriptures say, “the two are united into ONE.” But the person who is joined to the lord is ONE SPIRIT WITH HIM. (Emphasis mine).

Bet you haven’t thought about that, have you? We are ONE with Jesus… body, soul, and spirit. Read the following verse without your old baggage filters. Just read it for what it says.

Galatians 2:20-21 MSG— I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. CHRIST LIVES IN ME. THE LIFE YOU SEE ME LIVING IS NOT “MINE,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Emphasis mine).

We died on the cross with Christ. Our old self, our old sinful nature, does not live anymore. Jesus lives in us. We died. He lives. This body of ours… this soul of ours… this spirit of ours all belong to Him. He lives His life through us. If we are ONE together, wherever He goes, we go. Wherever we go, Jesus goes. He is not off somewhere watching us live. He is in us living for us and as us. What affects us, affects Him. We are His Body. He is our Head.

1 Corinthians 12:26-28 NLT— If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

Still have trouble believing that? Okay, try stubbing your little toe on the bedpost when you get up in the middle of the night and see if your whole body doesn’t suffer along with your little toe.

Jesus knows what we think. What we feel. What we see. What we hear. When we struggle, He struggles with us. When we celebrate, He celebrates with us. We do everything together. We experience everything together. All because we are ONE with Him.

From now on, whenever situations arise, we should ask, “Lord, what are WE going to do about this?”

We don’t ask for His help. Dead people don’t need help, they need life… His life. Jesus died so that He could live His life in us, for us, through us, and as us.

And you were crucified with Christ, remember? Or have you forgotten that already? Maybe you also forgot that Jesus turned your ME into WE, too.

“Okay, Lord, open OUR eyes to this amazing truth. Turn ME upside down. Together, WE can do this.”

Blessings,

Kenny
