Sabbath. A period of rest. A time for prayer and recreation.
God created the universe in six days. Whether a day was 24 hours, or several million years, what difference does it make? Get over yourself and take a day off. God did. He took a day off, not because He needed rest, but so that He could enjoy His creation with us.
Most people spend their entire lives getting ready to live. Life ain’t no dress rehearsal. It is the real thing. Live it. Stop preparing for it because it is here. Now. Live. Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly.
When Jesus died on the cross, He said, “IT IS FINISHED!” That means there is nothing left to do except live the life… His Life… and enjoy it with Him. Quit stressing, and live. Take time to smell the roses.
God created us to work and enjoy it. He gifted us so that the work we do would be enjoyable. But if you decided that work was something you had to do to make enough money to buy the stuff you thought you had to have to enjoy life, you missed His purpose completely. If you do what you love to do, you will never “work” a day in your life. Our culture has come to see work as a necessary evil just to make money. Hence, most people think a Sabbath is a break from the drudgery of work. No. Oh, no. The Sabbath is a day to focus completely on our relationship with God and enjoy life together. It is a day to stand back and just enjoy. A time to reflect upon the fruits of our labor.
Even though we love our work, we need a day of rest. God took a day off. And we are made in His image. We were not designed to work seven days a week, even if we love it. If we don’t “come apart,” we will eventually “come apart.”
You think about that…
Blessings,
Kenny
