The sunsets have been drop dead gorgeous lately— literally breath-taking. The colors and hues are simply magnificent. The blooms on the trees are bursting forth in radiant displays of pink, white, lavender— oh, the wisteria is amazing. And the bachelor buttons are the most unique shade of blue I’ve ever seen. Mirific— miraculous and terrific all wrapped up into one! Marvelous! I love springtime. We will get over our allergies. The pollen will be gone in a few days. It’s a small price to pay for such a panorama of His Majesty’s artwork.
By the way, have you thanked the Lord for rods and cones today. You know, you studied them in biology class. They are the photoreceptors in the eye. Rods adjust to various light levels helping us to see even in low levels of light. Cones distinguish colors. Both send signals to the brain for interpretation. Our bodies are, indeed, fearfully and wonderfully made.
Here’s my point. If the devil was right about what he told Eve in the Garden that God was no good and cared nothing about us. If God is a cosmic killjoy. If God is keeping all the good stuff for himself. Why didn’t he just make everything in world dull shades of gray. Why all the awesome colors? He didn’t keep the gorgeousness of spring-time to Himself. His brushstrokes are there for all to see.
And what about tastebuds? We didn’t have to eat. God could have put a battery in us that gave us sustained energy for 70 years without having to stop to eat or sleep. I enjoy eating and sleeping. The Bible says that God has given us all things to enjoy. Doesn’t sound like an ogre to me.
Maybe God is really good, and we have just taken His goodness for granted. We don’t know how blessed we are until we lose the blessing. Think about not having eyes to see God’s canvas in the sky each evening splashed with a dazzling display of pastels. What if all your food was tasteless and odorless? Wonder is God allowed us to eat but our food came in toothpaste tubes that we consumed purely for energy.
I was just thinking— maybe we don’t see how good God is because we are too busy to notice that He is constantly loving on us via sunsets, flowers, birds, banana splits and cheese-burgers. Not to mention the friends he gives us with whom we share the JOurneY.
I was just thinking that gratitude is the key that unlock the JOY in our JOurneY. Why not thank Him whenever He allows you to see His beauty in His creation. Thank Him that you can see, hear, touch, taste, and smell. And thank Him that there is so much He gives us to exercise those senses.
No, God is not good. He is great, awesome, loving, kind, gently, patient, and crazy wild about us. He is AWESOME!
I was just thinking how blessed we really are.
You think about that…
Blessings,
Kenny
