The Value of Love

Personal values are those things we believe are the most important in our lives. Values exist, whether we recognize them or not. The only way to experience true joy and happiness is to live and behave according to our true values. Otherwise, we experience internal conflict and stress. This is why it’s necessary to make a conscious effort to determine our true values. When our values are clear to us, making decisions becomes much easier.

Here is an inspirational story about values that I hope you will enjoy:

Many years ago, all feelings and emotions gathered to spend their vacation on a coastal island. Each of them was having a good time, but one day there was a storm warning, and everyone had to leave the island.

This caused panic. Everyone rushed to their boats, but Love was not in a hurry. There was so much to do, and Love was the last to decide to leave. By the time Love was ready, there were no free boats left. Still, Love looked around with hope.

As Prosperity passed by in its classy boat, Love asked,
“Can you please take me in your boat?”
Prosperity replied,
“My boat is full of gold and other precious possessions; there is no room for you.”

Then Vanity came by in a lovely boat. Love asked,
“Vanity, could you take me in your boat? Please, help me.”
Vanity said,
“No, your feet are muddy, and I don’t want my boat to get dirty.”

A little later, Sorrow passed by, and Love called for help. But Sorrow answered,
“I am so sad, I want to be by myself.”

Then Happiness came by, but when Love asked for help, Happiness was too happy to care about anyone else.

Suddenly, someone called out,
“Love, I will take you with me!”
Love did not recognize its savior, but gratefully jumped onto the boat.

When everyone had reached safety, Love got off the boat and met Knowledge.
“Knowledge,” Love asked, “do you know who helped me when everyone else turned away?”
Knowledge smiled and replied,
“That was Time, because only Time knows Love’s true value and what Love is capable of. Only Love can bring peace and happiness.”

The happiest people are not those who have the best of everything, but those who make the best of what they have. Every morning, wake up with a smile. Meet the day as though it were both the first and the last day of your life. Accept everything it offers with gratitude.

The message of this story is clear: when we are prosperous, we often underrate Love. When we feel important, we fail to appreciate Love. Even in happiness or sorrow, we tend to overlook Love. Only with time do we truly realize its value. Why wait? Cherish Love every day of your life. The one who is rich with something shares it with others.
