Confess. What comes to your mind when you hear that word? Confess your sins? Confess to a crime? Come clean of some wrong doing? Do your really know what the word, confess, means?
1.to acknowledge or avow (a fault, crime, misdeed, weakness, etc.) by way of revelation.
2.to own or admit as true: I must confess that I haven’t read the book.
3.to declare or acknowledge (one’s sins), especially to God or a priest in order to obtain absolution.
4.(of a priest) to hear the confession of (a person).
5.to acknowledge one’s belief or faith in; declare adherence to. (dictionary.com).
Four out of the five have to do with some kind of sin, or wrongdoing. Yes, we need to confess those things. The Bible says so. However, the Greek word for confess is homologeo. Homo means “the same.” Logeo means “to speak.” Basically confession means “to say the same thing.” It means to agree. The fifth definition is the only one that applies to us now.
As a child of God, our old life is gone. All our sins are forgiven. We are a new creation. Jesus lives in us, through us, for us, and as us. There are no sins to confess because Jesus died for our sins, and they are gone forever. Our old sinful, selfish, Adamic nature was once and for all crucified with Christ and does not exist anymore. So as a child of God, why do we keep confessing stuff that doesn’t exist anymore?
Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17 AMP).
I am crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me (Galatians 2:20).
If you don’t live anymore, you are dead. Jesus has become your life. And we are just like Him. And what is He like? Well, He is love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 gives us a description of love. If Jesus is our life, and we (our old former sinful life) doesn’t live anymore, then who He is, is who we are.
Because as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17 NKJV).
If we have become ONE with Jesus, why don’t we confess who we truly are now? This is the truth. Aren’t we suppose to confess the truth?
I am patient and kind. I am not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. I do not demand my own way. I am not irritable. I keep no record of being wronged. I do not rejoice about injustice but I rejoice whenever the truth wins out. I never give up, never lose faith, am always hopeful, and I always endure through every circumstance. I will never experience condemnation. I am totally forgiven forever. I am righteous, holy, complete, and good. I am a royal priesthood, a chosen generation. I am a trophy of His grace. Jesus supplies all my needs. I am loved unconditionally with the same love that Papa loves Jesus. I am accepted as Christ is accepted by Papa. This is my destiny.
Since Jesus came into your heart, all your confessions are positive. Jesus took all your negatives away. Start agreeing with Him about who He says you are. You will find that true confession really is good for your soul.
Blessings,
Kenny
