Political Incorrectness

The last verse in the book of Judges is rather sobering and regrettably not unlike the culture of our day. It says, “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).

When we don’t have strong leadership, who rely upon the strength and wisdom of the Lord, everyone does what’s right in his own eyes. That’s why, in my most humble opinion, America needs to return to our Judeo-Christian values. It is for freedom that Christ set us free. We are all free to choose the life we live, but we are not free to harm our fellow countrymen by our choices. Our founding fathers never intended to endorse, or impose any religion on any American. However, many of them warned that a democracy was doomed to failure that did not adhere to one of the basic tenets of the Bible, sacrifice for the good of others. How can our government be one OF the people, BY the people and FOR the people if we seek only our own benefit and pleasure at the expense of others?

I’m tired of being politically correct. After watching the mudslinging, character assassinations and outright lies of ALL political parties, I’ve had it. There are people who think because I believe in God and His Word that I’m a simpleton and a moron. Yes, the Bible is an ancient Book, but it certainly is not outdated. If we were to take God at His Word, things would be different in this world today. But then, a lot of people think they know better than He does, don’t they?

The Word says, “Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain” (Psalm 127:1

NIV).

By the way people in leadership behave, they certainly think we don’t need Him. We ostracize people for even using His Name in a public forum, and we’ve even tried to take His Name out of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Is the Golden Rule out of date? “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” Is that the rule in the political arena? Or is it, “do unto others before they get a chance to do unto you?” Is there anyone in government who has enough intestinal fortitude to do what’s best for the American people? Jesus kinda of sorta did that, didn’t He? He sacrificed His religious career to do what’s best for those who were helpless and hopeless. Not just His religious career but His very life was given for the good of all.

Grace is doing good for someone where there is no compelling reason to do so and every reason not to. There was no reason for Jesus to die for people bound and determined to do what was right in their own eyes. And yet that is exactly what He did. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had some leaders in our country that modeled their leadership after Jesus? Even if you don’t believe that Jesus is God, or the Messiah, or whatever you construe Him to be, He was at the very least a man that has impacted for good the entire course of human history. For all the humanists who believe that mankind can save himself by behavior modification, what better model than Jesus.

If man is inherently good and mankind is getting better, I must be watching the wrong nightly news. Some politicians are being indicted for fraud and scandals while others go unscathed. Colin Kaepernick becomes the new face of Nike. Parents are allowing children to decide what sex they want to be. Celebrities are thinking about bombing the White House. Children are being punished for saying “Ma’am” to a teacher. Talk about the head becoming the tail, and the tail becoming the head.

Philippians 2:5-11 from The Message translation says:  “Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of Himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of Himself that He had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, He set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, He stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, He lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death — and the worst kind of death at that: a crucifixion. Because of that obedience, God lifted Him high and honored Him far beyond anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings in heaven and on earth — even those long ago dead and buried — will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out in praise that He is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father.”

Where are the men and women of our great country who have the back-bone to stand up in the face of a hedonistic, self-absorbed culture and stand for truth, justice and freedom? Patriotism has been an issue in this political year as parties question one another’s patriotism. I am blessed by God… yes, by God, not by my goodness, or my performance, or my entitlement… to live in a country where I throw more food away in a day than many people in the world will have to eat in a week. I am blessed by God to live in a country where people are still free to say, at least for the moment, what they want to say without fear that a tyrant will have them executed.

Do you think our country would be better off, or worse off, if we tried to follow just a few of the old fuddy-duddy life lessons found in the Bible?

I know what you think, but then I am preaching to the choir. Keep singing His praises, Graceliners.

Take heart, Beloved. I’ve read the end of the Book. Spoiler alert: WE WIN!!!!

Blessings,

Kenny
