Stress and Rest: A Better Way
Stress is an inevitable part of our lives. None of us can escape it. Stressors rob us of life, rest, joy, and peace. They impact us through fear, anxiety, insecurity, and more. Whether it’s relational stress (marriage, family, friends), circumstantial stress (job, finances, security), or health-related stress, the pressure is real—and then there’s the daily stress of simply living in a chaotic world.
Coping with stress—especially when we do it apart from God—is often our attempt to handle life on our own terms. Many of us act like “lone wolves,” believing we’re strong enough to handle it all or that a self-help book will be enough. Some of our coping mechanisms seem harmless or even productive—exercise, work, television, social media. Others, like excessive drinking or drug use, are clearly harmful. But all of them can become addictive. When we use these methods to manage stress without inviting God into the process, we’re merely surviving, not thriving.
God never intended for us to carry stress on our own. In fact, we were not designed to bear it at all. He loves us just as we are—but He loves us too much to let us stay stuck in cycles of fear, exhaustion, and control. Love always comes with freedom. God won’t force Himself into our lives, even though He knows that true rest and peace are only found in Him.
Can you imagine your life without stress?
We often don’t realize how our stress affects us internally—or how it spills over onto others around us. Stress can become toxic, damaging relationships and clouding our thinking. But we have a choice: we can either take ownership of our stress and all the burdens that come with it, or we can give it to God and live from a place of His rest.
So what does rest look like?
It’s the deep, soul-level trust that God is in control. He already knows every detail of our lives. He promises to work everything for our good—even when it doesn’t feel good in the moment. He has numbered our days. He knows our thoughts. He guides our steps. We don’t have to keep striving to fix it all.
We can stop managing, manipulating, and micromanaging every stressful situation.
We can stop depending on self-help and start depending on God.
We can choose peace over panic.
Because real rest is not just physical—it’s spiritual.
It’s trusting that God’s got this… and He’s got you too.
